About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover photograph: This month's cover features Kee Teller, who was a "Navajo Talker" during World War II in the Pacific Theater. During the war, Native Americans helped the U.S. Army communicate by radio, providing a code that was unbreakable by the Japanese. Mr. Teller still proudly wears his U.S. Army insignia on his hat. The photograph was taken on the Navajo Reservation in October 2000 (copyright 2000 by Jeffrey M. Levin, MD).
