The Adult Functional Adaptive Behavior Scale (AFABS) was administered to 432 individuals who received geriatric support services as inpatients or senior city apartment dwellers. Factor analysis confirmed that the AFABS assesses a unified underlying dimension. Item analysis yielded strong indices of internal consistency. Supplementary analyses using the AFABS data and patients' placement level suggested that the AFABS provides precise measurement of adaptive behavior of elders who exhibit adaptive behavior deficits.
